- As many as 70 species of migrants along with 55 species of resident water birds can sometimes be seen on any given day here at the lake. Look out for Sarus cranes, spot-billed pelicans, black winged stilts, little grebes, herons (purple and grey), ruddy shelducks, Asian open-bills, purple swamphens, pheasant tailed jacanas and great cormorants. Enjoy lunch at Moe Yun Gyi Resort.

- We go back in time with an overland drive to Myeik, which has been one of the country’s biggest po rt and fishing towns for centuries. Its history goes back to the early 17th century when the East Indian Trading Company unloaded their ships at its ports, from where goods would go into the interiors to Tanintharyi and on to Siam Ayutthaya which was the capital in those days.
- Residents call this city Beik, and here they manufacture anything needed to be used in the fishing industry. To get a glimpse into its workings, we visit a soft shell crab and lobster farm. Take trip to the past with a leisurely walk into the colonial quarter towards the Royal Pearl trading shop which has been in the same family for a decade and a half. Here you can learn how pearls are cultivate and the arduous process that is part of the industry.

- In the morning, we transfer you to the airport for a domestic flight to Kawthaung which has a rather nondescript past before it became a port town. Maliwan in Myanmar’s south was the country’s main port but as ships got bigger, it was unable to handle the drafts and activity had to move 25 miles south to Kawthaung in the late 19th century. Back then, it was called Victoria Point.
- We help you check into your hotel and then escort you to the main market which is tax free as Thai nationals often frequent the place to shop in cross-border trade. Our guide will then take you to see the statue of King Bayinnaung at the cape. He was a very popular ruler and was loved by residents of Myanmar and Thailand alike.
- Close by is Victoria Point, which is Myanmar’s southern-most tip and offers excellent photo opportunities. We then head to the perennial waterfall called Mali Wan which has a park surrounding it, the perfect spot to enjoy a traditional lunch.
- In the afternoon, we head to 555 Mountain, at the summit of which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sunset over the town, and the neighbouring islands of the Mergui Archipelago.

The heart-shaped island - which is in fact a limestone atoll - has no beach but a gorgeous lagoon. Locally, it is also known as Emerald Heart Island, after the changing colour of the ocean at the inlet of the lagoon.
- To get here, we leave Kawthaung in the morning and meander around pretty islands to get to Cocks Comb. To get onto the island, our guide will swim with you through a natural tunnel into Emerald Heart. The water here is the perfect temperature for swimming and is calm and clear enough for snorkelling.
- Later in the morning, we head to Dunkin Island, known locally as Say Tan Kyun, where you will enjoy a packed lunch on a beach with virginal sand. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to take photographs on this paradise-like beach. Enjoy a relaxing walk on the powder white sand and soak in the sounds of the sea and forest.

- The cycling tour now takes you along little known parts that hug the bank of the river. You will then get onto a boat to an island called Kanaung To where time stands still. Thick bamboo forests hide small villages and pretty monasteries. Paddy fields and water buffaloes make picture perfect settings along the route.
- Locals go about their daily life in the fields, markets and small workshops as you pass by on small paths. At the island’s southern end, note an old customs office where riverboats pay taxes before we stop for a rest at a bamboo garden near a small village. Relax from your Myanmar cycling tour with some cooling drinks and delicious local snacks.
- We then board an old river ferry which takes a pleasant 30-minute route back to Yangon jetty at Strand road. We then head back to the starting point with stops at the famous Khen Hock Kheong Chinese temple and the beautiful Sule Pagoda. A cold beer or soft drink awaits you there.
