Itinerary
Day 1: Siem Reap Arrival
  • You will arrive at Siem Reap International Airport in the morning. We have arranged for your accommodation at Damrei Angkor Hotel. You will be transferred from the airport to the hotel. Please be informed that the rooms at the hotel may not be ready for occupation until the afternoon and the dinner is not included.
Day 2: Siem Reap
  • After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we start your morning with a visit to the South Gate which houses enormous statues of the Devas and asuras (celestial beings representing the good and the evil) churning the heavenly ocean of milk. We then visit the 12th century capital of Angkor Thom, the Bayon temple which is renow ned for its 54 unique towers that are embellished with more than 200 faces of the compassionate bodhisattva, Avolokitesvar, the recently renovated and re-opened 3-tiered Shiva temple of Baphuon, Phimeanakas (the Hindu temple at Angkor), the Terrace of Elephants of the ancient walled city of Angkor, the green vine-cloaked Royal Enclosure, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
  • You will visit the world famous Angkor Wat temple that accounts for over 50% of the tourist visit to Cambodia, that afternoon. The temple is one of the highlights of your Cambodia 10-day Temple Tour. This huge UNESCO World Heritage site is the largest Hindu monument in the world and is famous for the 3000 carvings of celestial nymphs on its walls. Considered a classic example of Khmer architecture, the temple features prominently on the country’s flag.
  • Your stay for the night will be at Damrei Angkor Hotel. Dinner is not included.
Day 3: Siem Reap
  • This day starts with the thrill and excitement of biking your way through the Grand Circuit route spanning 31 km. for the entire day. Start at Siem Reap and finish at the same point while passing through Neak Pean. Remember to bike on the unpaved road and cycle back to town (Siem Reap) on the countryside trails.
Day 4: Siem Reap – Preah Vihear
  • Start off after breakfast for exploring some of the historic and long-abandoned temples in remote, picturesque locations on the Khmer countryside. Visit Beng Mealea, the 11th century temple located 60 km away from Siem Reap. At just another hours’ drive is the Koh Ker region that has a number of temples. Chok Garyar, as it is locally referred to, had served as the capital city during the reign of Jayavarman IV and is believed to have at least 30 major temples and about a 100 smaller ones.
  • The Koh Ker region has several of the mammoth sculptures that were peculiar to that period. The famous Garuda (the mythical bird believed to be the vehicle of the Hindu god, Vishnu) statue displayed in the National Museum in Phnom Penh came from this region. There are the seven-storied Prasat Thom amidst dense forest vegetation, the Red Temple or Prasat Krahom which is built from pink-colored stones, and the biggest Linga (considered a symbol of fertility) in Cambodia in this region.
  • Your accommodation is arranged at Preah Vihear Boutique Hotel that has an excellent swimming pool. The local museum is worth a visit too. Lunch and dinner are not included in the day’s excursion.
Day 5: Preah Vihear, Kompong Thom
  • Breakfast is provided at the hotel. We drive 25 Km further north to reach Preah Vihear. We will be greeted at the foothills by a pickup truck which shall drop you off at the top of the mountain for a breathtaking view and to the Prasat Preah Vihear temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built by seven successive Khmer monarchs.
  • You will arrive at the Sambor Village Resort at Kompong Thom by the evening. Lunch and dinner are not included in the package.
Day 6: Kompong Thom – Kratie
  • After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, we drive 35 km northeast to Sambor Prei Kuk in the northeast. On the way, we have a glimpse of the traditional villages. You visit the small town of Kratie on the banks of Mekong River. Enjoy the French colonial buildings and shop at the central market. From Kratie, we take a ferry ride to the island of Koh Trong and check into Rajabori Villas, where your stay is organized for.
  • Lunch and dinner are not included in the arrangement.
Day 7: Kratie
  • Cycle leisurely to your heart’s content along the 9 km loop of the island after your breakfast at the villa. Have a look at the traditional villages of Khmer, observe the daily happening in their life, and the bountiful fruit orchards and paddy fields that they grow. Cycles are available locally. After refreshing yourself, ferry down to Kratie and visit the Buddhist monasteries of Wat Phnom Sambok. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the countryside from the top of the hill. Keep close watch for the Irrawady River dolphins that are invariably spotted in the afternoon.

Day 8: Kratie – Phnom Penh
  • We start after breakfast for a ferry ride back to Kratie and continue by road to Kompong Cham. En route there is a brief stop at a rubber plantation that was set up by French industrialist, Michelin. The next stop will be Wat Nokhor that has both an old temple and a modern pagoda of the 12th century. View samples of typical colonial architecture and be sure to stop over in Skuon for a taste of the exotic culinary delights of Cambodia (deep-fried spiders are a delicacy, be warned, if you’ve Arachnophobia!). We return to Phnom Penh and check into the Double Leaf Hotel by the evening.

Day 9: Phnom Penh
  • Head out for a day dedicated to exploring the many sights of Phnom Penh city. We begin with a visit to the National Museum that was designed in Khmer style in 1917 by a French archeologist, Georges Groslier.  The collection has a large number of sculptures of the Khmer era. Don’t miss visiting the Royal palace that has a Silver pagoda (its floor is made of over 5000 tiles of silver; hence the name). There is an impressive Buddha made of gold and weighing 90 kg. Equally impressive is the emerald and baccarat crystal figurine of Buddha. Brace yourself for a visit to the infamous prison-museum of Tuol Sleng which was the biggest place for torture and detention during the reign of Khmer Rouge. End the day by shopping till you drop at the Russian Market. This is the last day of exploration in the 10-day Cambodia trip for we will be off to the next destination tomorrow!

Day 10: Phnom Penh – Departure
  • Breakfast at the hotel and leave for the Phnom Penh International Airport to board flight.
