Day 1 (Trapeang Kreal - Stung Treng) (-, L, D)

Arrive at Trapeang Kreal Immigration checkpoint on the Laos - Cambodia border where a ProVacation representative will receive you on the Cambodian side. Your adventure starts almost instantly on arrival.
We drive to the small town of Voeun Khao located a short distance away. From here, board a wooden boat to sail to Anlung Cheuteal Dolphin pool to spot the elusive Irrawaddy dolphin that lives in the Mekong River. Have lunch at a local restaurant on site.
Next, we sail to O’svay to see the Ramsar International Wetlands. These wetlands stretch for 40 kilometres along the Mekong River, all the way to the Laos-Cambodian border. The flooded forests and interloping river channels of these wetlands are home to dolphin pools and are rich breeding grounds for fish and other aqua life. This is one of the most scenic parts of the Mekong River.
From O’svay we drive to Stung Treng town. Have an early dinner at a local restaurant and then check into your hotel for the night.

Day 2 (Bicycle tour of Stung Treng) (B, L, D)

Stung Treng is a small provincial town that presents an authentic picture of Cambodian life; unhurried and free from the hustle-bustle of the city. However, the bustling river port of Stung Treng serves as a gateway to the busiest stretches on the Mekong.
Today we set off after breakfast for a full day’s bicycle tour of Stung Treng and its environs. We start our tour from the western part of town at Wat Thorm Raing Sey, incidentally a great spot for watching the sunset.
We continue to cycle in an easterly direction along the bank of the Mekong until Wat Por Thik Nean and then make our way to Stung Treng pier. From here, you can see the bustling Stung Treng pier where vendors sell goods from Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam and crowds of people can be seen weaving in and out of queues. One of the signature dishes found at this market is Nhem, or pickled fish wrapped in banana leaves in addition to a variety of fresh catches fresh from the Mekong. The most famous fish in these parts is the Si Yi.
We resume our tour and continue to cycle eastwards under the recently constructed Sekong Bridge. On the way we pass the intricately painted Wat Khat Takyaram, also known as Wat Kandal and Wat Sras Keo Mony Sovann.
We arrive at the Mekong Blue Centre café for a well deserved lunch break. Enjoy a brief rest and tuck into a delicious local meal. Post lunch, we visit the Mekong Blue mulberry farm and silk weaving centre where local women from vulnerable communities are trained in the process of sericulture farming and weaving.
Next, our journey takes us to the other side of the river. We take a ferry ride across the Mekong and visit the village of Thala Barivat. Visit a 7th century temple known as Prasat Preah Srey or Prasah Preah Ko because of a smiling ox statue in front of it. Continue to the Pram Bei Lung Temple and take some time exploring the relics before returning to your ferry. Transfer back to Stung Treng pier and have dinner at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel.

Day 3 (Stung Treng - Kratie) (B, L, D)

Today we leave Stung Kreng and make our way to the pretty riverside town of Kratie. We set off after breakfast and drive for about 122 kilometres (about 2 hours) to reach Kratie by lunchtime. Check into your hotel and have lunch at a local restaurant. Kratie has a rich legacy of colonial architecture and a languid pace of life that is quaint and charming.
After lunch we will visit Wat Phnom Sampok in the north of the town to see the secluded Buddhist monasteries and take in the breathtaking views from the hilltop.
From here we make our way further north to Kampi for a chance to spot the elusive Irrawaddy Dolphin. These freshwater dolphins live in the Mekong River and are usually seen in the late afternoon.
Drive back to Kratie and then take a ferry ride across Mekong River to the island of Koh Trong situated opposite Kratie Town. Check into a resort in Koh Trong and spend the night here.

Day 4 (Horse-cart and cycle tour of Kratie) (B, L, D)

Have an early breakfast at the hotel and set off for a tour of the islands. This is a 9-kilometre route that takes us around the island to explore local village life.
Enjoy a horse-cart ride across traditional Khmer villages, emerald rice fields and fruit orchards and discover the customs and rituals of villagers. Participate in an activity that gives back to the environment by planting a tree at a special tree planting site.
Conclude your experience of bucolic island life with a traditional Khmer lunch at a local house, before taking the ferry back to Kratie.
Get ready for a bicycle tour of the town. We begin at the bustling market of Rokakandal. Make sure to try Kartie’s signature snack Krolan which is a mixture of sticky rice, coconut and beans cooked in a bamboo tube.
From here we make our way to the 18th century Rokakandal Temple. Don’t miss the ornate decorations on interior wooden pillars, and old monks’ residences built on the opposite side.
On the way back, stop to see domesticated Sambal Deer grazing in the grounds of the Governor’s office by the riverfront.
As we continue to ride along the banks of the Mekong River, see rows of fishing boats trading their wares as well as a number of floating villages. We stop to enjoy the sunset by the riverside. Sip on a refreshing glass of fruit punch as you watch the sun dissolve into the waters in the distance. Transfer by ferry to your hotel in Koh Trong.

Day 5 (Kratie - Kompong Cham - Phnom Penh) (B, L, D)

Today we will return to Phnom Penh at the end of the first leg of our tour. Have a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and return by ferry to Kratie. From here, drive to Kompong Cham, via Chhup to visit the biggest rubber plantation in the country established during the French colonial era by the tyre manufacturer Michelin.
En route, visit the famous Wat Nakor Pagoda. This pagoda is a unique blend of the old and new where a modern Buddhist Theravada pagoda has been built into a 12th century Mahayana temple made of sandstone.
From here, we make our way to Snuol where we stop for lunch at a local restaurant. For the adventurous epicurean, trying the signature Cambodian delicacy, the deep-fried spider is a must! After lunch we continue to Phnom Penh and check into a hotel. You can take spend the rest of the evening at leisure until dinner.

Day 6 (Phnom Penh - Tonle Bati - Takeo - Phnom Da - Kep) (B, L, D)

Today marks the second leg of our tour. We set off after breakfast and make our way to the quaint seaside retreat of Kep. On the way, stop at Tonle Bati, a picturesque lake favoured by locals as a popular picnic spot. Visit the 12th century Ta Prohm Temple, built by Jayavarman VII. The temple is in surprisingly good shape albeit with fewer footfalls than its more illustrious namesake in Angkor.
We will also stop at two other temples including Yeah Peau and Prasat Neang Khmao, a 10th century shrine known as the temple of the Black Virgin.
Next, we visit a local silk weaving village before continuing to the lakeside town of Takeo. We stop here for lunch at a local restaurant and then take a boat from Takeo pier to Phnom Da. Twin hills isolated from the mainland create an atmospheric backdrop against the river. Phnom Da Temple sits on top of the first hill and its foundation dates back to the 6th century, although the laterite towers of the temple were rebuilt in the 11th century. A restored Hindu sanctuary Wat Asram Moha Russei is perched on top of the second hill and dates back to 700AD. The two hills are punctured by five different caves that were used for several centuries as Hindu and Buddhist shrines and more recently as hideouts during the Vietnam War. It’s a fairly easy climb up the hill and we reach the top to enjoy the panoramic views of the river.
From Phnom Da, we return to Takeo by boat and from there to Kep. Formerly known as Kep-sur-Mer, this coastal town was once the favoured retreat of Cambodia’s French-elite. Check into your hotel in the evening.

Day 7 (Kep - Rabbit Island - Kampot - Kompong Som) (B, L, D)

Have a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before setting off for the curiously named Rabbit Island. A short 20-minute boat ride brings us to our destination. Locals believe the shape of the island resembles a rabbit head, hence the name. Officially known as Koh Tunsay, the island features a 250-metre long beach and is a great spot for a day trip. This is one of the nicest beaches in Kep although don’t expect the pristine white sand beaches from Asian travel catalogues. The beachfront has several food stalls that serve up the day’s freshest produce in a sauce of your choice.
Enjoy a lovely lunch at a local restaurant and then drive to Kampot. Time seems to have stood still in this charming riverside town with its colonial-era architecture and quiet backpacker retreats.
Visit the local market to see the colourful assortment of wares on display before continuing along the coastline via Damrei Mountain. Damrei, also known as Elephant Mountain is part of the larger Cardamom mountain range. We reach Kompong Som in the late afternoon and check into a hotel. The rest of the evening can be spent at leisure.

Day 8 (Sihanoukville sightseeing) (B, L, D)

There is no fixed itinerary for today and you are free to explore Sihanoukville at your own pace. Have a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and then set off for the beach. Sihanoukville is a popular gateway to the white-sand beaches of south Cambodian islands. Backpackers flock to Sihanoukaville in between their travels for a night of partying at the many clubs and casinos dotted across the island. Here bohemian-style bungalows stand alongside swanky resorts and you can enjoy a full day of sunbathing and strolling around town. Have lunch at a local restaurant and return to the hotel in the evening.

Day 9 (Sihanoukville - Phnom Penh departure) (B, -, -)

On the final day of your tour, have breakfast at the hotel and then transfer to Phnom Penh. The drive takes around 4-and-a-half hours and we drop you off at a hotel or the airport where the tour ends.
