Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival at Ho Chi Minh City, City Tour (-, L, D)
  • Arrive at Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, where a vehicle will be waiting for you at the airport. Reach your hotel to relax and have lunch, and get ready to explore the beautiful city that is rich in its history and culture.
  • Begin your tour by visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels situated about 70 kilometres away from the city. The Viet Cong used this fascinating maze of underground tunnels during the Vietnam War. Walk and crawl through the labyrinthine ways that fan out of a central axis. Acquaint yourself with the tunnels that were used as hideouts and shelters during the war.
  • The tour is sure to build up your appetite; indulge in a scrumptious meal at a local restaurant before you go back to exploring Saigon.
  • Visit the Thien Hau Pagoda – the temple of the Chinese sea goddess Mazu, and the Reunification Palace, a famous symbol of the end of Vietnam War. The War Remnants Museum will offer you further insights into the history of Vietnam’s struggles.
  • Lastly, get a glimpse of local crafts at a lacquer ware workshop.
  • Return to the hotel for an early dinner and get ready for an exciting overnight cruise on the Mekong River the next day!
Day 2 – Cruise to Cai Be, Sa Dec, Can Tho (B, L, D)
  • Your unforgettable journey through the waters of Vietnam officially begins today. A vehicle will pick you up from the hotel and take you to Cai Be. Reach the pier at Phu An hamlet, where the elegant Song Xanh Sampan is waiting to welcome you on board.
  • Before the tour begins, you can learn about some of the traditional enterprises in the area by visiting local home factories that make rice paste, coconut candies and other products.
  • The Sampan will take you on an upstream cruise on the Tien Giang River along Vinh Long and Sa Dec. You will travel through water jacinth plantations into a small canal.
  • Transfer to a rowing boat, and view charming villages and fruit plantations. Soon you will reach Sa Dec. The town has almost a Venetian feel to it because of its numerous waterways, yet it is a unique place where French and Chinese architecture happily share space.
  • On this occasion, you will visit one such ancient French house. The home of Huynh Thuy Le is a nineteenth-century building with stained-glass windows, elegant arches and wooden carvings. Huynh Thuy Le is the famed lover described in the widely-read novel The Lover written by French author Marguerite Duras.
  • After this memorable literary pilgrimage, return to the Song Xanh Sampan for lunch.
  • You will now move downstream towards Can Tho. Interact with the local people as you stop by the bank for a while and visit a Cao Dai temple.
  • Dinner is served at Nha Co, another house dating back to the 19th century.
  • The journey ends for the day as the sampan moors at Can Tho for the night.
Day 3 – Cai Rang, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh China Town Discovery (B, L, D)
  • The sampan starts its cruise again early in the morning. Enjoy your breakfast on board before you reach Cai Rang, the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta. View this unique sight as you pass by crowds of sampans and boats carrying the fresh produce of fruits, vegetables, fish, rice, flowers and many other items.
  • Visit a local market as you reach your final stop at the Ninh Kieu pier in Can Tho. Return to Ho Chi Minh city; lunch will be waiting for you at the hotel. 
  • In the afternoon, visit the renowned Cholon, or the District 5, the erstwhile Chinatown of Ho Chi Minh City. Some of the significant landmarks there are the Cha Tam Catholic Church and the Cao Dai Church. The beautiful yellow-and-white Cha Tam Church is known for its role in the coup in former South Vietnam when it served as a hiding place for the then president Ngo Dinh Diem and his brother.
  • Enjoy the astonishingly beautiful decorations inside the Cao Dai church. Learn about Vietnam’s medical history by taking a tour of the museum of Vietnamese traditional medicine. The skilfully decorated building displays numerous traditional medical books and artefacts.
  • Your experience of Cholon will not be complete until you visit the Binh Tay daily market. Constructed in the nineteenth century, this serves as the central market for the local people of Ho Chi Minh.
  • Explore the lively market housed in a two-storied building that serves a wide range of fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and poultry.
  • Finally, take a tour through Cholon in a cycle-rickshaw or ‘cyclo’ which, among other places, will take you to the Thien Hau Pagoda, and to a local medicine vendor. 
Day 4 – Can Gio Mangrove Forest Tour, View of the City (B, L, D)
  • The Can Gio Mangrove Forest is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, on e of the most pristine wetlands in Vietnam, and houses many rare species of flora and fauna. Travel through canals on a speedboat that will initially take you to a riverside market in the Mekong Delta. The vibrant settlement is soon left behind as you enter a different realm of the enchanting mangrove forest.
  • On this remarkable journey, you will visit a local fishing village that is also home to monkeys, a crocodile reserve, and the giant bat lagoon. This tour is guaranteed to be one of the most memorable experiences of your life.
  • In the afternoon, take a tour around Ho Chi Minh City to view some more cultural and historical landmarks. Visit the 262 metres high Bitexco Financial Tower, designed in the shape of a lotus.
  • Reach the observation deck of the tower to enjoy a magnificent bird’s eye view of the city.
  • Go on to visit Lam Son – Opera Square, where you will find some important historical buildings like the Opera House and the imposing post-office.
  • End your tour with a visit to the lively Ben Thanh market.
Day 5 – My Tho Pier, Vinh Trang Pagoda (B, L, D)
  • Continue your journey through the waters of the Mekong Delta as you reach its heartland today.
  • Visit My Tho and admire its beautiful scenery, and embark on a boat ride on the Mekong River.
  • Visit a local workshop and watch the making of traditional handicrafts and sweets. You will be transported back in time as a horse-drawn carriage will take you to an orchard, where you will enjoy tea and fresh seasonal fruit, and listen to live music.
  • A sampan will welcome you on board and take you through the web of narrow canals; observe the daily goings-on in the lives of local villagers by the river bank.
  • Return to My Tho pier to have lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Your tour concludes today with a visit to the Vinh Trang Pagoda, a famous nineteenth-century pagoda by the Bao Dinh canal.
  • Spend the remaining day as you please; you can avail some of the many available services at your hotel, such as a relaxing massage, or take a stroll around the city or shop at one of the local markets that you have discovered in the last few days!
Day 6 – Cai Be, Tan Phong, Saigon Bonsai Cruise (B, L, D)
  • Travel from Ho Chi Minh to the vibrant docks of Cai Be that is teeming with cargo ships and boats. Explore the floating markets of Cai Be on a boat.
  • Reach the Mekong Lodge and enjoy a scrumptious lunch at the riverside restaurant. 
  • After lunch, go on a cycle tour to the picturesque Tan Phong Island. Visit the beautiful orchards that adorn the island, and observe the local people going about their day. Do not forget to have a taste of some of the delectable fruit and enjoy a cup of tea to refresh yourself!
  • Return to Ho Chi Minh City to end your day in style with the Bonsai Cruise on the Saigon River. Enjoy the beautiful riverside views of the city that houses some exquisite Asian and French architectural specimens.  Admire the stunning sunset beyond the city skyline from the waters of Saigon.
  • Indulge in a delicious feast at dinner and experience live music and shows on board.
Day 7 – Saigon Vespa Tour, Departure (B, -, -)
  • Make your last day in Vietnam memorable by touring the city in the style of local people – on a Vespa! Pass by some beautiful sites in the city as you zigzag through the lanes.
  • If you begin your tour early in the morning, you will be taken to a bird club.
  • Visit the monument of the monk Thich Quang Duc, the Ong Bon Pagoda, a local market in District 2, a flower market, and a funeral house, among other places.
  • Enjoy one last view of the City People’s People’s Committee Building, the Reunification Palace, the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the post office.
  • Soon, it will be time for you to return to your hotel and get ready for your flight. As your departure approaches, savour this experience of immersing yourself in the teeming life of the city.
